Dial4Help Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How does the service work?
A:
We immediately receive your call. Our system then sends out your pre-determined (written in advance) personalised text messages to all your designated contacts at once. The text will appear as if it was sent from your own phone number.
But that’s not all, our system will also simultaneously call all your pre-determined contacts and play a voice message (10 second voice message pre-recorded by yourself in advance). When they answer the call, they will hear your voice asking for help, so they can take whatever action deemed appropriate to the situation – either call the Gardaí, an Ambulance, or any other professional services.
Our system will keep calling your designated contacts for 1 hour or until the call is answered. This will guarantee your call for help will be heard when you need it most. Your designated contacts may also assign a specific ringtone, different to their main one, so that they know this is the emergency call.
The system is also designed to work around voicemails, which will ensure your support network always receive your message.
Q: Why is Dial4Help better than a monitored alarm service?
A:
It is better for the following reasons:
- You don’t need to buy another phone or any other equipment – the service is configured to work on your existing mobile/smart phone, either old or new!
- With monitored panic buttons or medical alarms a member of a monitoring station will have to call you back to confirm whether the alarm is false or true. Monitoring stations will not call the Gardaí or Medical services until they’ve received a confirmation from you that the alarm is genuine. Fact! Therefore, precious time is wasted. We have alleviated this issue.
- Panic button devices are easily misplaced and forgotten about, but your mobile phone is something you always carry with you.
- On average it takes 10-30 minutes longer for professional services to arrive at the reported location. This can be substantially longer in rural and isolated areas.
- The alarm is raised to people who care about you and are more likely to respond faster.
Q: Do I really need this service?
A:
This service can offer you peace of mind and gives you the reassurance that, just in case you need it, help is close at hand. If you thought you were in trouble and could contact a neighbour quickly when you need help, wouldn’t you want to have that as an option?
Q: Is there a minimum contract?
A:
There is no minimum contract or any other commitments! You can cancel your subscription at any time!
However, you can save up to three months free if you prepay for a year. That’s 3 months FREE!
Q: Why should I subscribe and pay a minimum of €2 per month if I could just buy a phone with an emergency SOS button and use it when there is a need?
A:
Dial4Help offers more than just a panic button; it’s faster and more reliable than those phones for the following reasons:
- You don’t need to spend at least €60 on a new phone (possibly changing it every year).
Instead, you could purchase our yearly subscription for only €18 and use it on your existing mobile or landline with the guaranteed service when you need it most.
- Those phones can send only up to 4 texts on service initiation and can dial only one number. What if you’re out of credit?!
Dial4Help will still work even if your credit balance is zero, guaranteed! HOWEVER, you can also configure the SOS button on such phones to work with Dial4Help service and we also offer those phones at the best market price through our partner IrishElectronics.com.
- Upon service initiation we will dial ALL your recipients at the same time AND play a voice message pre-recorded by yourself in advance to make sure your message is received.
- One of our best selling packages “Alert Plus” can send up to 20 texts and dial up to 20 recipients simultaneously to ensure time is not wasted when help is needed most. It can also be used with two different phones (up to 5 phones with Alert Pro), so two people can use the service at the same time.
- Community Inform Service, to report any suspicious activity in your area, is automatically included with all of our Dial4Help subscription packages, and it can be used by any member of your recipient’s group for FREE by simply dialling 1800-INFORM.
- More features will be added in coming months, which will automatically be available to your subscription plan.
Q: What is Large Button Mobile Phone?
A:
Along with our main Panic Button service we also offer supplementary phones that would be ideal to use for you, your parents or grandparents in conjunction with Dial4Help. We offer those at the best price on the market via our primary exclusive partner IrishElectronics.com
Q: Do I need to have a specific mobile phone? Will it work on smartphones and/or touch screen phones?
A:
The service will work on any phone, as you are simply initiating a free phone call to our
main emergency service number 1800 911 000.
Standard “button” phones are easy to setup and to be used for speed dialling – you simply press and hold for two seconds any (all) pre-configured dial key on your phone to initiate a call.
Most touchphones/smarphones will also allow you to speed dial using externally exposed buttons (i.e. Volume buttons, camera button, etc.), which you can pre set for speed dial;
Other phones will allow for voice commands by simply saying something like “Call Help” in order to initiate a phone call, and it is ideal for people with sight loss.
If you are not sure how to configure your phone for speed dial, please email us you phone make and model number to
support@dial4help.net and we will reply with an appropriate instruction.
Q: Where do I get numbers for my local neighbours?
A:
This is the only quick thing you will require to arrange yourself. It doesn’t have to be your neighbours but people close by who will take care of you in case of any danger. This is why Dial4Help is better than monitoring stations which are operated by people you know nothing about.
Q: Can I use the service if my phone is out of coverage (no cell reception)?
A:
As to the use of it on your mobile, the answer will be No. You must have a steady signal reception in the area you will be using the service. If the signal reception in your house is weak we recommend purchasing a signal booster from your mobile phone operator.
However, our system also works on landlines, which may be an option to you if your cell reception is weak.
